Little Lifesavers on the Road!

If you’re travelling around Australia like us, you’ll know the struggle of running out of your staple favourites that you can only buy online.

One thing we’ve learned? Regional post offices can be absolute lifesavers.

We’d been waiting until we were staying somewhere long enough to organise deliveries. We asked some family friends if we could send packages to their house. As it turned out, they weren’t home and had redirected their mail but suggested we simply walk into the local post office and ask if we could send directly there instead.

So we did just that. Smythesdale Post Office ended up being closest to us, and when we asked, their response was: “Absolutely, no problem. We do that for people all the time.”

How good is that? They even wrote the address down for us.

We ended up having quite a few parcels sent there and started to feel a bit bad about the extra work we might be creating for the staff. We even asked if there was anything we could do to say thank you (we were thinking maybe a small voucher or something).

But as it turns out, the parcels themselves are actually the favour!

The staff explained that the number of parcels processed contributes to additional pay, so more parcels coming through the post office is actually a good thing for them. Who would have thought?

It made us feel a lot better about all our deliveries — and even more appreciative of how helpful they’ve been.

From what we understand, not all Australia Post outlets offer this, so it’s always best to walk in and ask first. But regional post offices can be incredibly accommodating, and this one has been a real lifesaver for us.
